Serbia’s Ivana Spanovic opened her long jump season at the Diamond League meeting in Shanghai on Sunday.

Less than two weeks left until the European Youth Olympic Trials in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 30 May to 1 June which serve as a qualifying measure for the Youth Olympic Games being held in Nanjing, China, in August.

Speed was the name of the game this weekend as Jimmy Vicaut, Christophe Lemaitre, Ivet Lalova and Tiffany Porter soared to the top of the European Athletics rankings with superb leading times.

The 2013 European Athletics Junior 800m champion, Anita Hinriksdottir of Iceland, will represent IR-Reykjavik Sportsclub at the European Champion Clubs Cup Senior Group B held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on 24 May.

It could become an image for the new season - even if it is a snap shot from 12 months ago.

It is the second leg of the IAAF Diamond League in Shanghai on Sunday and for Renaud Lavillenie, a return to the competition where he has become a dominant force.
